Brunswick prepares to spin off Life Fitness

1 Mar 2018

Brunswick Corporation is preparing to spin off its Life Fitness business to turn it into a standalone listed entity, the U.S. company announced earlier today.

Jaime Irick, who became president of Life Fitness about one year ago, will lead what the company has temporarily called FitnessCo. It will encompass the Life Fitness, Hammer Strength, Cybex, Indoor Cycling Group, Scifit and Brunswick Billiards brands.

Brunswick said that its board has authorised a transaction to create independent companies in the fitness industry and in the marine engine and boat business, to execute distinct growth strategies.

This comes a few weeks after Brunswick acknowledged discussions with one of its shareholders, Owl Creek, about the potential added value of spinning off the fitness business.

The proposed transaction is projected to be finalised by the end of March 2019, subject to final approval from Brunswick’s board and other customary conditions.
