Multi-boutique franchise group targets Europe

28 Mar 2018

Formed just a few months ago as a group of boutique fitness club brands, Xponential Fitness has started spreading to Europe through an agreement to launch the Cyclebar concept in the U.K.

Xponential Fitness was created last year with support from TPG Growth, starting with Club Pilates, then CycleBar and Stretch Lab. Row House, a rowing concept from New York, was added in January. Just last week the group was enlarged with Anna Kaiser Technique (AKT), a dance-based fitness concept from New York.

And it appears that the shopping spree isn’t over just yet, since Xponential is holding talks with brands specialised in running, yoga and barre. The group anticipates that it will end the year with up to eight boutique concepts.

The group has set its sights on international markets almost from the start by getting John Kersh on board as chief international development officer. Kersh previously built up the international network of Anytime Fitness.

Although Xponential is taking a global approach, Kersh makes it clear that Europe is a key target. “Europe is by far our highest-priority region due to the high level of participation in fitness in many countries, and the relative maturity of the fitness industry,” he said. “Boutique fitness is growing everywhere, but consumers in Europe have access to a wide range of quality offerings, and we believe the timing is right for our brands to be introduced.”
