Schaller, founder and chief executive of the McFit Group, has handed over its operational leadership to Vito Scavo, the Italian businessman behind Happy Fit. Scavo became chief operating officer at McFit four years ago, after the German group bought his Italian fitness club concept.

McFit makes it clear that Schaller will continue to guide the company he established in 1997, as sole shareholder and chief executive. He has turned it into one of Europe’s leading operators, with over 1.7 million members working out at more than 280 clubs in seven countries, and advanced plans to get started in the U.S. market.

Earlier this year Scavo already became an equal partner in McFit Italia, which he has managed since the Happy Fit acquisition, along with his function as the group’s chief operating officer. Based in Berlin, Scavo retains both of these functions along with McFit’s wider operational leadership.
